The best Christmas present

I really enjoy sharing my thoughts on here, and so much has happened in the past few months! It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, so a lot of catching up to do. I’ll try and keep my posts short and sweet!

During our annual trip to the New Wine United summer conference with my church, I really felt God urging me to learn the guitar. I have never even picked one up before, let alone play! I can’t read music and don’t know about the theory. But I am part of our Worship Group at church and sing regularly. I mentioned quietly to James how I felt God was challenging me with this, so he very kindly made His suggestion into a reality by giving me a guitar for Christmas.

Guitar
I love it! I’ve been learning for about a month, and a friend who also plays guitar at our church has been giving me some helpful tips with posture, hand positioning, chord transitions and offering encouragement. It’s going to take time, perseverance, dedication and a lot of patience.

My fingers are sore and I’ve cut most of my nails short in an effort to get to grips with seemingly impossible chords. I’m pretty sure my fingers are not made to go in all these different directions, but even in a few weeks, I can see things starting to click into place.

My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul.

Psalm 108:1

God speaks so directly through music. I’ve experienced such amazing spiritual connections through worship. What better way to honour Him, than by worshiping Him with singing and music, using the very talents that He has gifted to us.

Lord, I pray you’d give me the patience and determination to continue learning the guitar for your praise! Amen.
